Let's try this again...
...and a little more forcefully this time. Recently, I questioned if this community is going too far in the direction of Christian apologia. Now that I've had time to reflect on the question, and after at least one moderator has taken steps to try to ensure the question is not discussed in any great detail, I have come to a decision. This isn't a unilateral decision on my part; I happen to know that a fair number of people on this community agree with me. My decision is simply this:
There exists on this community right now a tendency to go lightly on Dominionism in a misguided attempt to appease the Christian members of this community.
Let's look at the facts, ladies and gentlemen: Blackwater USA, the company that is hard at work killing Iraqi citizens-- that is, when it's not treating Gulf Coast residents like Iraqis-- has proven links to a virtual Dominionist Who's Who; everyone from the White House to Amway founder Rich DeVos to Mary Kay Letourneau. (Hold your coughs, please.) This company is finally receiving media attention. With us in the forefront of exposing their corrupt empire? Oh, hell no... we're too busy becoming the goddamned CS Lewis fan club!
"Moderator hat on firmly," you might say, "I don't like your tone." Well, TOUGH. It turns out that not only have I been around this community for a long time, I posted the very first entry to this LiveJournal community, back when we were a ragtag collection of Internet addicts looking for a central web community. (Remember EZBoard? McChristianity? Yeah, good times...) So thankyouverymuch, Cat, but I think I've earned the right to speak up when I see this community go astray. And my fellow members, we went astray this week. We dropped the ball on Blackwater USA; there's no getting around that. Are we going to just sit back and watch when the next crisis hits, further relegating our work over the last four years to irrelevancy?
Folks, this isn't your average LJ comm. For example,
dogemperor's writings are highly regarded on Daily Kos, and have received national media attention more than once. What is written here on Friday can be, and has been, on the news next Wednesday. I've seen it happen, ladies and gentlemen. It can happen again, but not while we're scrambling to make nice with the Christians.
Got it? Good. Now, to borrow a quote from a recent thread, *play nice*.
