Let's try this again...
...and a little more forcefully this time. Recently, I questioned if this community is going too far in the direction of Christian apologia. Now that I've had time to reflect on the question, and after at least one moderator has taken steps to try to ensure the question is not discussed in any great detail, I have come to a decision. This isn't a unilateral decision on my part; I happen to know that a fair number of people on this community agree with me. My decision is simply this:

There exists on this community right now a tendency to go lightly on Dominionism in a misguided attempt to appease the Christian members of this community.

Let's look at the facts, ladies and gentlemen: Blackwater USA, the company that is hard at work killing Iraqi citizens-- that is, when it's not treating Gulf Coast residents like Iraqis-- has proven links to a virtual Dominionist Who's Who; everyone from the White House to Amway founder Rich DeVos to Mary Kay Letourneau. (Hold your coughs, please.) This company is finally receiving media attention. With us in the forefront of exposing their corrupt empire? Oh, hell no... we're too busy becoming the goddamned CS Lewis fan club!

"Moderator hat on firmly," you might say, "I don't like your tone." Well, TOUGH. It turns out that not only have I been around this community for a long time, I posted the very first entry to this LiveJournal community, back when we were a ragtag collection of Internet addicts looking for a central web community. (Remember EZBoard? McChristianity? Yeah, good times...) So thankyouverymuch, Cat, but I think I've earned the right to speak up when I see this community go astray. And my fellow members, we went astray this week. We dropped the ball on Blackwater USA; there's no getting around that. Are we going to just sit back and watch when the next crisis hits, further relegating our work over the last four years to irrelevancy?

Folks, this isn't your average LJ comm. For example, [info]dogemperor's writings are highly regarded on Daily Kos, and have received national media attention more than once. What is written here on Friday can be, and has been, on the news next Wednesday. I've seen it happen, ladies and gentlemen. It can happen again, but not while we're scrambling to make nice with the Christians.

Got it? Good. Now, to borrow a quote from a recent thread, *play nice*.

Oh, I was a member of this community for awhile. But I lost interest and got out. Or maybe it was just because so much of the conversation was over my head (politics is not my strong suit). So I'll just watch from the sidelines and wave my pompoms for you guys, if that's okay.

A lot of the conversations there are simply of no interest to me whatsoever.

However, it looks like things are going to heat up a bit at this stage of the game, thanks to our buddyroo here...

Yeah, that's one of the things I like about Jeff and one of the reasons why I want to meet him so badly - he speaks his mind, and isn't too concerned about being "politically correct." He speaks his truth from his heart. I like it.

I do, yes. I f-locked it to members of the community, since it's relevant only to the community. But I suppose I could open it up... Hey, if I'm getting in trouble there, it's for more than just opening up some entries. ;-)

If you have a personal disagreement with another member of this community, please do not get personal with that person within the community.

Thanks.

To which I responded:

My disagreement isn't personal. It's community-related. Now, I suggest you let me speak and get off this damned power trip certain members of the moderation team seem to have had lately.

I gave you guys the opportunity to discuss this off-channel. Collectively and individually (with the exception of [info]gothic_oreo), you refused. Rest assured, then, that this WILL be discussed, whether it's on this community or off.

Now *play nice*.

As a mod though, here is my opinion. It is not a final opinion, and does not reflect the standing of the comm nor anyone else but myself.

**********

After carefully considering the problem of the past few weeks, I have come to the conclusion that the only way to prevent dischord and "mission drift" in the community would be to restrict posting access.

I think one should only be allowed to post to dark_christian if one is on an approved list. We could grandfather in everyone who has ever posted before, but make sure that N00Bs don't stir the shit until they've been around for a while.

That is - one would have to be a member (someone with the ability to comment) for at least a few months before one would have the right to contribute posts.

I believe that without a rule of this type, we're going to continue to have problems. We need to restrict who can post.

*************

I respect you, I respect your standpoint, but I wish you had emailed the mod team instead of taking this public first. I really hope the comm adopts the type of policy I have outlined above.

I invited Cat to e-mail me. I *did* e-mail [info]gothic_oreo, and he e-mailed me back. Taking this public was not my first option, I assure you.

As for the proposed action, I would support it. It's what we've done on [info]nonfluffypagans. We simply can't afford to have the comm hijacked (or steeplejacked) again like it was this week.

And by the way, a little respect on the part of the rest of the mod team for those of us who've been around a while would be nice. Cat blew me off. If (s)he hadn't, we could have avoided this... and I guarantee if I hadn't posted, someone else would have posted something substantially similar. In fact, [info]nebris DID.

If led to that, I can easily go outside LiveJournal entirely. Already I've been involved with Pirate Journal, and the fact is there's probably more I could do on a website we control than on a LiveJournal community anyway.

But for the same reason you, I, and the other members of the NFP team keep [info]nonfluffypagans on LJ, I'm sticking with [info]dark_christian for now. For the time being, the people are on LiveJournal. We should go, or stay, where the people are... at least while we can.
